Romeo and Juliet: 5 EXAMS ON THEMES (Feud, Love, Death, Fate, Family Honour) +model + writing frame

(0)
5 Exams written in the style of the new 9-1 AQA GCSE examination for Romeo and Juliet. For the exam on the theme of love there is a model answer for students to annotate. For the questions on the other themes, there is a 9 step grid for students to follow. I have also attached a generic writing frame for responding to any character or theme to help students with the 9 step method.

Macbeth attitudes to supernatural exam walk-through

(0)
A lesson that walks students through how to answer an exam question on attitudes to the supernatural in Macbeth. The featured extract comes from Act 1 Scene 3. The lesson includes annotations of the extract, a grade 9 sample answer and annotations for quotations to use from outside the extract to finish the response. Also contains an alternative lesson which uses Act 1 Scene 1 as the starting extract. This lesson is actually better.

Masculinity in Macbeth Exam Walk through

An exam walk-through lesson exploring the importance of masculinity in Macbeth. The lesson includes annotations for the given extract (Act 1 Scene 7) and then examines 3 other parts of the play that could be used to complete the response. There is also a model paragraph to help get students started on their response.

Romeo and Juliet: Grade 9, Grade 8 and Grade 7 model responses

(1)
This popular resource includes 3 grade 9 Romeo and Juliet responses, 1 grade 8 response and 1 grade 7 model response to 5 AQA style GCSE examination questions on Romeo and Juliet. The exam questions and extracts are included beside the model responses. I have tried to produce responses at the level reasonably expected of a high-level GCSE-aged student within 45 minutes of examination time. Sometimes when teachers write exemplar responses, they produce such a high level of analysis that students find them overwhelming. I tried to avoid that. Includes a grade 9 model response to a question on adults and children. Includes a grade 8 model response to a question about male hostility and asks students how they could turn it into a grade 9 response through deeper language analysis (A02). This resource is ideal to use to show students how to write successful answers that meet the criteria for A01, A02 and A03. I have also included a sixth examination question so that students can have a go at an exam question themselves using my 9 step method.

Help with starting off Power and Conflict comparisons

In my experience, students find beginning comparative paragraphs to be the hardest aspect of writing comparisons on the power and conflict anthology poems. These two worksheets offer help with starting off discriminating comparisons. Students use the prompts to complete the opening sentences to various comparative paragraphs.

2 differentiated planning sheets with writing frame for writing an essay exploring who is responsible for Macbeth’s downfall. Stronger students can use the version which explores how Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and The Witches are to blame. Weaker students can use the version that only focuses on how Macbeth is responsible. Includes an accompanying PowerPoint. Also includes a model 4 person discussion about who is to blame to showcase the way students should respond to each other’s points.
